Failed to build xpand source was created by normano
Hello Tolis,
Since 17.1.5.1 until now 17.1.5.5 I could not build xpand source using buildAll.cmd.
Both vs2015 and vs2017 community edition is installed on my system. and i have modified defines.bat accordingly. I've tried both vsver=vs2015 and vsver=2017 and always failed. I have no problem before in previous version (16.x.x.x).

I attached log files and command prompt output, hopefully you could point me what am i missing.

Hi

I found some inconsistencies in the Xpand.build however I am not sure they will help you. I attached the file give it a try a let me know. However the log complains that the DXCore files located at github.com/expand/Support/tree/4b0d27ad0...ssemblies/DevExpress are not found, so I wonder do you download the support repo as well? are these files in the Support folder in the root of the sources? How did you get your sources.

Thank you for your reply Tolis, I got the source from your latest download page. Yes, there are no files in support folder so it seems I need to download them separately. Replacing Xpand.build doesn't seems to help. In previous version (16.x.x.x) I just need to change some values in defines.bat then run buildAll.cmd and I'm all set.

So, I tried to clone the source from github.com/expand/eXpand and ran buildAll.cmd, it kind of work. My xpand project working correctly but there are some issues that I'm aware:
  • When building using vs2017 only small numbers of expand assemblies are built and installed
  • Using vs2015, Most of xpand assemblies are built and installed to GAC but still with some errors, it seems some xpand assemblies does not built correctly but my project doesn't use them.
  • Before building, all previous expand assemblies are removed from GAC, but it seems original DevExpress assemblies are also removed. So I need to repair DevExpress installation every time I modify and build xpand source.

i ll give you a short answer and come back for a better reply when I research further.

1. support folder should be included in sources I will check where it is missed and added again.
2. if possible I would like the logs
3. Build is supported only with the MSbuild v14 tools www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=48159 and should be independent of the VS version installed.(VS2017 has a totally new build API which is not supported at the moment )
4. Gac installer tool by default will unstall all assemblies in folder, the build takes care removing the DX assemblies so it wont be unistall, but in this case since it failed and not have more info I assume that DX assemblies remain in folder thats why they unistall.

Either way i will test in a clean VM again to see what is happening.

Thanks Tolis, I'll wait until you update latest download page because unfortunately i wasn't able to clone it from your repo with following error message:
Submodule 'Support' (https://github.com/expand/Support.git) registered for path 'Support'
Cloning into 'C:/Users/norman/Source/Repos/eXpand/Support'...
error: no such remote ref d7dfd821723912f2da92ee2df775e79595cbd3c0
Fetched in submodule path 'Support', but it did not contain d7dfd821723912f2da92ee2df775e79595cbd3c0. Direct fetching of that commit failed.

Edit:
I finally able to clone the source from github without errors. compiling still error though. but all assemblies uninstalled/installed correctly and my project run just fine. log files attached bellow:
